Many gun owners use rimfire ammo in plinking efforts. Plinking is "practice" shooting and most use rimfire ammo when practicing and perfecting their handguns. Rimfire ammo is usually less expensive and is not reloadable like some shotgun shells.
Rimfire cartridges are usually low caliber cartridges due to the thinness of the plastic casing required. It is typically made in mass quantities called "lots."
